How to Get Part 107 Certified

Use the correct order so you do not pay for the wrong test, create duplicate FAA records, or get stuck after passing.

The first-time UAG path

Confirm Part 107 is the right framework

Strictly recreational flyers use the recreational exception and TRUST. Eligible current Part 61 pilots may have an alternate route.

Create an IACRA account and obtain an FTN

Use your legal identity consistently. The FTN is required before the testing vendor can schedule UAG.

Study the five ACS knowledge areas

Regulations, airspace, weather, loading/performance, and operations are not weighted equally.

Schedule UAG with the FAA testing vendor

Select an approved testing center, verify the current fee, and confirm identification requirements.

Take the 60-question test

Current testing standards provide up to two hours and require a 70% score.

Use the passing AKTR in IACRA

Complete FAA Form 8710-13 online. Review every identity and test field before submission.

Wait for TSA vetting and FAA processing

A temporary certificate generally becomes available in IACRA before the permanent certificate arrives.

Keep the Airman Knowledge Test Report. It contains information used in the application and documents your result. The passing report is generally valid for 24 calendar months for the certificate application.
